Privacy Policy

Treechival collects only the information necessary to provide our family tree and archive services. This includes your email address (used for authentication via Cloudflare Zero Trust), your name and family relationship data that you or your family members provide, and photos, videos, and documents uploaded to family archives.

If you opt in to SMS notifications, we also collect your phone number. Phone numbers are stored securely and used solely for sending the notifications you have opted in to receive.

We do not collect browsing data, use tracking cookies, or employ third-party analytics.

Your information is used exclusively to operate and improve the Treechival service. Specifically, we use it to authenticate your identity and manage access to family trees, display family tree data and archive media to authorized family members, send email notifications you have opted in to (digests, nudges, feature updates), and send SMS notifications if you have opted in and verified your phone number.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

All data is stored on Cloudflare's global network using D1 (database) and R2 (media storage). Authentication is handled through Cloudflare Zero Trust, providing enterprise-grade security. All connections are encrypted via HTTPS.

Photos and media are stored in private R2 buckets accessible only to authenticated, authorized family members. We do not make any family data publicly accessible.

Treechival uses the following third-party services to operate: Cloudflare (hosting, authentication, database, and media storage), Resend (transactional email delivery), Twilio (SMS notifications, only if you opt in), Anthropic Claude (AI-generated family member stories, using only data already in the tree), and Stripe (payment processing for keepsakes orders, if applicable).

Each of these services processes only the minimum data necessary for their function. None receive your full family tree data.

SMS notifications are entirely opt-in. To receive text messages, you must enter your phone number in Account Settings, verify it via a one-time code, check a consent checkbox, and enable SMS notification toggles.

You can disable SMS notifications at any time from your Account Settings. You can also reply STOP to any message to immediately unsubscribe. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply. We send notifications only — no marketing or promotional messages.

You can update your personal information through your account settings at any time. You can opt out of any notification type (email or SMS) independently through Account Settings. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.

Because Treechival is a family-operated platform, deletion of shared family tree data (like relationship connections) may be handled on a case-by-case basis to preserve the integrity of the tree for other family members.

Treechival is a family platform and may contain information about minors as part of family tree records. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Family tree data about minors is entered and managed by adult family members.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. For significant changes, we may notify users through the What’s New section of the account dashboard.
